What is Your Money Story?

Before we can change our relationship with money, we need to understand our current one.

Sarah Says

I've worked with hundreds of women on their finances, and I can tell you this: the numbers are rarely the real issue. The beliefs, emotions, and stories we carry about money—that's where the real work happens.

Your "money story" is the narrative you've built about money over your lifetime. It includes:

  • What you were taught about money growing up
  • Messages you absorbed from family, friends, and society
  • Experiences that shaped your financial beliefs
  • The emotions you associate with money

**These stories often run on autopilot.** You might find yourself:

  • Avoiding looking at your bank balance
  • Feeling guilty after spending money (even on necessities)
  • Believing you're "just not good with money"
  • Comparing yourself to others financially
  • Sabotaging your own financial progress

The first step to financial freedom isn't a budget or a savings plan—it's awareness of the stories driving your behaviour.

In this module, we'll bring your money story into the light. Not to judge it, but to understand it—and ultimately, to choose which parts serve you and which parts need rewriting.
